Konami Gerry Anderson UFO Toys Review
There have been very few toys produced based on Gerry Anderson's UFO.
Elsewhere in Space City's UFO section you can see many of the kits we've made up
and the three 1960s Dinky Toys.
In the first decade of the 21st centuary Konami produced a superb range of small but very accurate fully
finished replicas of UFO series craft.
The size of these models ranges from three to four inches in length. Each model has
a display stand.
These Konami models were sold as 'Candy Toys'. Don't be mislead though, these
are not at all like breakfast cereal giveaways, as you can see from our photos.
The 'candy' seemed incidental as it was in a very tiny packet.
Some models require a little assembly. Generally speaking no glue is required
as the parts fit very well.
We did glue the parts on the Interceptor though.
All painting and lettering is finished and the items can be displayed as soon
as you get them out of the packet.
What you see here is exactly what you get.
These models were made exclusively for the Japanese market.
Konami released 7 UFO models in 2002. Skydiver, Sky 1, Mobile, UFO, Moon
Module/Carrier, Interceptor and Gay Ellis in jumpsuit uniform. This Ellis figure is more difficult to find as
fewer were sold, though they retailed at the same price as the other models.
In 2003 Konami released a model of the Space Intruder Detector (SID). That's
in a twin pack with either a Fireball XL5 or an Eagle spaceship.
In 2004 Konami reissued the six UFO vehicles, together with a new Gay Ellis
figure. This time Ellis is wearing her off-duty miniskirt outfit.
All of the Konami models exhibit an amazing level of detail that puts to
shame many larger kits and toys.
If only all Gerry Anderson related toys and models were of this high quality.
I used to hope that Galoob would produce a Gerry Anderson collection of Micro
Machines like the Star Trek and Star Wars toys they did.
These are far better than those, admittedly excellent toys.
Forget tacky gimmics - these 'toys' are fantastic recreations of the studio
models - in miniature.
Konami also manufactured many of the craft from other Gerry Anderson shows.
You can see more Konami toys in our other Anderson series sections.
